Climares visits KNMI

Climares members have visited KNMI, the Royal Meteorological Institute of the Netherlands (Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorologisch Instituut), one of the Climares partners. Only few days after the Netherlands has faced its first Code Red Alert ever due to record heat, the urgency of our project becomes even more prominent. Dr. Izidine Pinto has introduced us to the installations, museum and to the advanced  meteorological equipment to measure and monitor the weather with consistency and accuracy. Dr. Maarten van Aalst gave a brief history of KNMI and explained how the warning (code yellow, orange and red)  work in terms of mobilization of authorities and how they are important to prevent larger disasters, specially to the most vulnerable communities. He also warned that more of these heat events are likely to happen in the coming years, more often and more intensely, and encouraged Climares members to act fast alongside the Knowledge∞Action Networks.
